Time Out Thursday: Royals & Harry Potter

Last updated on January 24th, 2024 at 02:56 pm

When your friends offer to take you to a Royals game once a year … and when you get the opportunity to take a great friend to that game, you go! This Time Out Thursday will cover the need to still get out and socialize, and remember that you are still a person instead of an entity behind a screen.

I have been volunteering with Planet Comicon for a few years now and I have enjoyed every moment I have spent with them. Whether it is the craziness that is Planet Comicon, or it is working promotional events, or even enjoying the holidays. There is not a time that I haven’t made memories with my people.

My best friend and I went to the Royals vs White Sox game on June 8th with my Planet Comicon group. Before the game, we had a massive tailgate party. Tailgating is nothing without good food, friends, and a lot of booze. We had a few games set up as well. The next 2 hours were spent just chilling and chatting with other like-minded people.

Following the tailgating, we all went into the stadium for the game. The weather was just exceptional. Our seats were in the upper decks (which I honestly prefer because of the shade, and I am a ginger) so there was a LOT of walking upstairs until we discovered where the escalators were. We got to watch the game while munching on nachos and drinking frozen margaritas and boozy butterbeer.

Unfortunately, the Royals did not pull out a win, but the game was nice and relaxing regardless. After the game, Harry Potter was to play on the screen. While this DID happen, they had some massive sound issues. My friend and I decided we didn’t really care to wait out the fix. We have the movie at home, and so we took off.

What I forgot about was HOW much alcohol I had consumed and HOW much peopling I had done. The first thing that happened when my friend turned on the movie was me passing out … in the sun. I didn’t get burned at the stadium, can’t say the same about inside my own house.

There are some people in life that make you laugh a little louder, smile a little bigger and live just a little bit better.

June is not an easy month for me … or my roommate/best friend. It took me decades to find MY people, but I found them. He is, and hopefully always will be, there to make my life just a little bit better, a little more manageable, a little bit more fun, and continue to make me feel more whole. This is what life is worth living for … spending time with people you love and doing things that really don’t matter as long as you’re with the ones that make you happy.
